Watermark’s 2nd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cruise Generates Money for AACSPCA
(Annapolis, MD) – While some are happy to welcome Fall, we know of a few dozen dogs wishing it was still Summer! To benefit the Anne Arundel County SPCA, Cruises on the Bay™ by Watermark®’s Harbor Queenwent to the dogs on Thursday, July 24th for the 2ndAnnual Dog Days of Summer Cruise. Over 90 people and almost as many dogs stepped onboard the iconic Annapolis boat for a barking good time cruising on the beautiful Severn River, dining on treats from Graul’s Market and listening to live music. A silent auction generated funds for our local SPCA in addition to a donation from Watermark. Dogs kept cool in the summer heat by bobbing for hot dogs in baby pools on Harbor Queen’s top deck and human passengers stayed cool with mixed drinks and a breezy evening.
April O'Brien, Director of Sales and Marketing at Watermark; Kelly Brown, President of the SPCA of Anne Arundel County; Jennifer DeLancey, Special Events Manager at Watermark. With Toto, Peaches and Roxanne.
“The AACSPCA are great partners of ours and this is an event we love to host. We always welcome dogs on board our vessels, especially Harbor Queen, so this is an especially fun cruise for the community, the AACSPCA and our crew,” says Debbie Gosselin, President of Watermark, “There’s nothing quite like taking a boatload of dogs out for a cruise.”
“We truly enjoyed cruising on the Harbor Queen. Our goal is to continue to make a difference in the animal community. With Watermark’s support and dedication, we will continue to see improvements at our shelter and throughout our community,” saidKelly Brown, President of the AACSPCA.
The event brought out dog lovers from around the Annapolis area and a few lucky adoptable dogs from the shelter enjoyed meet and greets on the boat. SPCA volunteers handed out leis for the dogs, golden retrievers enjoyed the breeze on the bow and a couple of St. Bernards on the top deck proved themselves to be “lap dogs” in spite of their size. A mix of dogs from small to large – from a papillon named Happy to a weimaraner named Jackson and every breed in between – socialized on Harbor Queen’s two decks while their human companions enjoyed the summer evening. A good time was had by all four legged and two legged guests!
The Anne Arundel County SPCA is a private, non-profit animal welfare organization. The SPCA receives no funding from city, county, state, or federal government. They are supported by private donations. In addition to an in-kind donation, Watermark donated $1,155 to the AACSPCA.
