Watermark wins Maryland Tourism Council Awards During Tourism & Travel Summit
(Annapolis, MD) -- Watermark was honored with 2 awards from Maryland Tourism Council during the 2011 Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit Awards Banquet held in Prince Georges County Thursday, November 3. Watermark’s Harbor Queen campaign won the Continuing Campaign Promotion award and Heather Skipper, Director of Land Operations, won the Maryland Tourism Education Foundation award for Educational Development.
“We are very pleased to be recognized by our industry peers,” said Debbie Gosselin, President of
Watermark and the 2010 Honoree for Maryland Tourism Person of the Year. “As we begin our 40th year in business in 2012, it is especially gratifying to have Harbor Queen, also celebrating 40 years in Annapolis, acknowledged with an industry award. And Heather Skipper has done an exemplary job in working on continuing education for our historical interpreters. Her guidance and detailed training program is the reason we have the best trained, most knowledgeable guides working with Watermark,” continued Gosselin.
After accepting her award, Skipper said she “was pleased to be honored and encouraged that education was held in continuing high esteem within the travel and tourism industry.” Skipper’s training program includes annual classes and tests for Watermark guides in history, hospitality and general information that also help in serving as ambassadors for Annapolis.
Harbor Queen celebrates 40 years of fun in Annapolis in 2012. The ongoing promotional campaign included signage, brochures and other traditional marketing. “Harbor Queen has one ongoing campaign item that is hard to duplicate,” says April O’Brien, Director of Marketing and Sales for Watermark. “When leaving the dock she sounds her horn, announcing the next cruise around Annapolis. That announcement of fun is a key part of the ongoing marketing for Harbor Queen and has been since 1972,” O’Brien concluded.
