Watermark and United States Naval Academy Receive “Public/Private Initiative Award” at
9th Annual Heritage Awards

(Annapolis, MD) – Four Rivers: The Heritage Area of Annapolis, London Town & South County awarded Watermark® and the United States Naval Academy with the “Public/Private Initiative Award” at the 9th Annual Heritage Awards on November 8, 2012. The award is in recognition of Watermark and the United States Naval Academy’s partnership in developing a new War of 1812 walking tour: The Naval War of 1812; The Founding of the American Navy. The walking tour was developed in celebration of the War of 1812 Bicentennial. The Heritage Awards recognize individuals, organizations, partnerships, programs and products that contribute significantly to the community by interpreting, promoting, preserving, researching and/or supporting our historical legacy.

The Naval War of 1812; The Founding of the American Navy self-guided walking tour made its debut in July 2012. Annapolis Tours® by Watermark® currently offers a guided version of the tour to groups and schools and will begin offering a guided version to the public twice monthly starting spring 2013. Debbie Gosselin, president of Watermark says, “This award recognizes a unique opportunity for a local business in downtown Annapolis to partner with a private institution such as the Naval Academy. We are proud of this partnership and look forward to locals and visitors enjoying this wonderful new walking tour.”

Debbie Gosselin and United States Naval Academy Superintendent Michael M. Miller accepted the award together at the Ninth Annual Heritage Awards ceremony held at Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center on November 8, 2012. As part of Annapolis’ War of 1812 celebration, a special limited time exhibit will open at the Naval Academy from April 1-November 3, 2013. The Naval War of 1812; The Founding of the American Navy Exhibit features art and artifacts from the private collection of William I. Koch.
