Annapolis, MD – Annapolis is her stage and history is her art! Annapolis Tours by Watermark is pleased to announce longtime tour guide Pat Turlington has been awarded “Interpreter of the Year” by Four Rivers: The Heritage Area of Annapolis, London Town & South County. Turlington was honored at the 14th Annual Heritage Awards on November 13, 2017. For more than two decades, Turlington has given walking tours and led educational field trips in Annapolis’ historic district. The Heritage Awards recognize individuals, organizations, partnerships, programs and products that contribute significantly to the community by interpreting, promoting, preserving, researching and/or supporting our historical legacy.

Director of Land Operations for Watermark Heather Skipper says, “Mistress Pat is a shining example for all of our 65 tour guides! We like to say she is the guide with over 300 years of knowledge. Her approach to the lively history of Annapolis and the United States Naval Academy is exciting, fun and informative. Pat has toured for years however she continues to hone her craft, always learning, always adding to her historical narrative.” Turlington, also known as Mistress Pat has been guiding with Annapolis Tours, which merged with Watermark in 2004, since 1993.

Mistress Pat exudes a special charm that engages audiences and scholars of all ages and backgrounds. Her commitment to her historic interpretation, presentation style and customer service is often noted by her guests. Watermark’s repeat clients often request Turlington by name for their groups and students. From a teacher that requests Pat each year for her annual class fieldtrip, “Mistress Pat should be commended for the gracious way in which she handled the group. She was witty, always stayed in character, accommodating to the special needs of the group, patient (with both adults and kids) and informative.”

Turlington lives in Annapolis with her husband Kenny. She is also a volunteer for Historic Annapolis and can often be found interpreting history at Hogshead. When she is not donning colonial attire, over the years she and her husband have also sponsored several midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy.
