Holiday Party Planning Tips

We recently teamed up with Classic Catering, one of our preferred caterers on our private yacht charters, to share holiday party trends and planning tips on Baltimore's Fox 45. Classic Account Executive Nicole Van Natta and Watermark Director of Sales and Marketing April O'Brien share insight from the event industry:

More Holiday Party Planning Ideas:

  • Keep It Classic! Choose a rich color palette, twinkly lights, greenery and ornaments to set the scene. Why mess with perfection, right? As shown above, earthy decor is on trend this year and makes a party feel more inviting.
  • Food, food, food. The most important part -- next to venue selection if you ask us! -- of any party is the food. The menu you choose sets the tone for the event whether it's a formal sit-down meal with table service to encourage intimate conversation or a menu of heavy hors d'oeuvres including passed trays and stations throughout the room to encourage movement and mixing and mingling.
  • Eat, DRINK and be merry! Mix up berry cocktails, a sparkling wine punch or a champagne cooler. Bubbles, seasonal berries, elegant drinkware and professional bartenders will add class and ease to your party.
  • Think outside the [gift] box. Secret Santa is always a fun gift exchange among coworkers -- especially if you stretch it out with small gifts for a few days before the party -- but it's also fun to mix it up. At our office party, we do a White Elephant gift exchange with a $10 spending limit. It's always great fun with some homemade gifts thrown into the mix. Other ideas include bringing in your favorite recipe with a basket made up of all the ingredients needed for the treat, a book exchange featuring everyone's favorite read or a coffee mug exchange to brighten up the office kitchen.
  • Book your vendors NOW! If you have your eye on a venue, it's important to reserve your party now before you lose your preferred date. If you're hiring entertainment, they'll also have a packed schedule during the holiday season. And the event planner at your venue will also have to coordinate any rentals you may need.
